Fury (1936). Based on the story, Mob Rule, by Norman Krasna, this was the first Hollywood production by German director, Fritz Lang. Said to have been Lang's favourite American film, it targets ignorance, greed, hypocrisy, bigotry and intolerance in a small town. The film can also be read as criticism of the conditions in Nazi German that Lang had just fled. But it was also a warning to America - a warning that remains relevant to our own time, nearly 90 years later. Get more background and information on the film and director here.
